Seek First His Kingdom
I’ve had a tough time wrapping my head around the events of the past couple of weeks. Confusion has reigned supreme throughout the world and with it, rampant uncertainty and a large dose of apprehension. Who and what should we believe about the coronavirus?
Is the well-being of my family, friends and millions of other people around the world really in jeopardy? Is the stock market going to bounce back quickly–or at all? Am I washing my hands enough? Should we have church services on Sunday? Am I taking the right vitamin supplements? Am I overreacting? Or am I not taking this pandemic seriously enough? Where on Earth can I get some honest, insightful guidance I can trust?
The answer is always the same: The Word of God. When I stop banging my head against the wall and take a moment to reflect on what the Scriptures say, I can begin to make some sense out of the turmoil.
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace. ~ I Corinthians 14:33
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. ~ Proverbs 3:5
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. ~ Isaiah 41:10
On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:10
With no “March Madness” or professional basketball, football, tennis or golf to watch on TV for the next few weeks, I’m going to commit myself to spending more time focusing on God’s promises. He is the author of peace, the king of all creation, and the healer of every virus.
Several years ago we produced a series of devotional videos based on the promises of Scripture, great hymns of the faith, and the beauty of creation. SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM is one of them that seemed particularly relevant to the current challenges we’re all facing, right now. Take a couple of minutes to reflect on its message. I pray it’s an encouragement to you.
May the peace of God that surpasses all understanding guard your hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus.
